Students from Deyi Secondary School visited the SANA Step-Up Centre on 4 November 2016 to gather information on our programmes and services and conduct interviews with an ex-offender, counsellor and volunteer.
Ex-offender and SANA Peer Leader, Jabez Koh shared his drug-crazed lifestyle and his time in prison. He related how SANA gave him a new purpose in life and how he held on to his vow to never return to the life of crime and drugs. The students pelted him with questions on challenges he faced upon his release from prison, in particular, people’s attitudes towards ex-offenders like himself, struggling to find employment and the ever-present temptation to re-offend.
The students were visibly moved, and as a follow-up, they wrote motivational letters to recovering addicts and their families, offering them support and encouragement.
