ASPIRE Camp

 

ASPIRE Camp, a one-day camp, serves to engage students (ages 10 to 15) with an interactive anti-drug education, and offers opportunities for building self-efficacy, teamwork and leadership.

As an ASPIRE Camp Facilitator, you will have close interaction with the participants during the various activities, games and lively presentations. While providing assistance and guidance during the camp, you will also be encouraging teamwork and creativity.

Criteria
You need to be 18 to 50 years old, physically and medically fit, patient and enjoy working with challenging youth.


Anti-drug and Inhalant Abuse Badge Scheme

 

The Anti-drug and Inhalant Abuse Badge Scheme is a series of one-day course during school holidays, to educate the uniformed group students in secondary schools. These students will act as ‘Transfer Agents’ to advocate the anti-drug abuse message to their peers. More than 7000 pupils participate in this scheme annually.

As a Badge Scheme Facilitator, you will get to work alongside the students, the Badge Scheme Instructors, as well as provide valuable assistance to SANA coordinators. You will benefit from the close interaction with various groups of people and as a team with a common goal against drug abuse. SANA will identify facilitators with potential to undergo training to become Badge Scheme Instructors.

Criteria
You need to be between 17 to 25 years old, medically fit, energetic and outgoing, and enjoy interacting with youths.


SANA Neighbourhood Scheme

 

SANA Neighbourhood Scheme was introduced in 1979 to tap the availability of volunteer and logistics resources at the constituency / neighbourhood level to help spread the anti-drug message. Drug Abuse Prevention Committees (DAPCs) are formed in different constituencies and its members are represented by the various grassroots organisations in the respective neighbourhoods. There are at present 17 DAPCs to look into planning and implementing anti-drug programmes and activities.

As a DAPC Event Helper, you will meet people from different walks of life and assist SANA to garner support for our anti-drug cause. You will have the opportunity to explore which activity suits your interest, such as ‘Public Pledging to be Drug-Free’ which has been well received at various areas in the heartlands.

Criteria
You are 17 years old and are able to communicate in fluent English. You will not mind travelling to different parts of Singapore on weekend events to help out in events.


SANA Helpline

 

The SANA Helpline is an avenue for SANA to provide the correct drug related information and advice to the general public and to provide support and follow-up to ex-drug addicts and their families. Most importantly, the Helpline is a vital channel for SANA to reach out to the victims of drug abuse, especially the families of drug addicts.

As a Helpliner, you will provide a listening ear to those with drug-related problems, give information on drug abuse to the public, as well as assist in case referrals. You are patient and sincere in attending to the callers’ needs. The Helpline operates from 7.30 am to 12 midnight.

Criteria
You need to be above 21 years old, patient, and able to converse in English and a Mother tongue. Good written English is necessary for submitting call reports. Counselling background will be an advantage. Commitment is essential with the attendance of a monthly meeting.



Aftercare-Befriender Programme

 

Aftercare-Befriender Programme helps to provide positive guidance, good role modeling and counselling to our clients. The aim is to reintegrate them into society through establishing a positive and meaningful relationship.

As a Befriender, you are patient and passionate to improve the quality of lives of these ex-offenders. You are a guide and a friend to them, and will lead them along the right path away from drugs and harmful activities. As much as they will benefit from your good influence, you can also expect a sense of fulfillment and be rewarded with the knowledge that you made a difference to someone’s life.

Criteria
You need to be 21 years old and above, and have at least an ‘O’ level qualification. Preferably, you would have some counselling background. The commitment required would be: Direct contact with client at least once a month, telephone contact fortnightly, and there might be house visits.



Aftercare-Family Enrichment Programme (AFEP)

 

The Aftercare-Family Enrichment Programme (AFEP) is a quarterly programme for aftercare clients and their families. It focuses on providing experiential learning for the clients, their spouses and children through activities and enrichment workshops. The programme’s main aim is to strengthen family bonding.

As an AFEP Facilitator, you will be involved in communicating and engaging the clients and their families during the activities. You will play a very important role to facilitate the running of the programme, which helps to develop self-confidence, social skills, problem solving techniques and willingness to attempt new challenges together as a family.

Criteria
You need to be between 18 and 50 years old, preferably. Ideally you are required to commit at least one full day on weekends. It will be very helpful if you are able to impart Lifeskills or knowledge in culinary, craftwork etc.



Incare-Religious Programme

 

Incare-Religious Programme aims to use religion to cultivate and strengthen the clients’ character and increase the resistance against drug temptation, strain and stress. The religious groups in the programme are: Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Roman Catholic and Sikh.

As a Religious Counsellor, you are staunch in your faith, with an expertise in religious curriculum. You will be deeply fulfilled by establishing a meaningful connection with our clients and helping, through their respective religion, to inspire them to improve the quality of lives with renewed strength.

Criteria
You need to be above 21 years old, and able to converse in both English and your Mother Tongue. You are expected to be committed to your assigned client, who is in prison, with at least twice a week on weekdays or weekends. Certification and approval by religious organisations will be helpful.



Aftercare Sports Programme

 

The Aftercare Sports Programme aims to promote sports as a healthy lifestyle activity to rehabilitate our clients who are undergoing or have undergone counselling under the Case Management Framework Programme. It will also help to engage their family members, spouses and children, in the rehabilitation process.

As an Aftercare Sports Facilitator, you will assist to coordinate training sessions, and be actively involved during practice sessions, for the selected sport. You will work very closely with SANA clients, training them with proper rules and etiquette for them to play a game or sport more meaningfully. You will enjoy the challenge of motivating your team and cultivating the team spirit, and moreimportantly, engaging our clients in healthy games/sports to enrich their lives.

Criteria
You need to be between 18-50 years old, with knowledge of a game or sport (i.e. Netball and Futsal). We need you to commit on weekends for training sessions. It will be a great advantage if you have refereeing and coaching certification or experience.



Community Reintegration Programme (CRP)

 

Incare – Community Reintegration Programme (CRP) a pre-released programme initiated by Prisons is designed to help inmates have a seamless entry back into the society through the use of Choice therapy and Life Skills modules.

As a CRP Facilitator, you will be involved in communicating and engaging the inmates during the modules. You will play a very important role to facilitate the running of the programme, which helps to prepare them for reintegration into society.

Criteria
You need to be above 21 years old, and able to converse fluently in both English and your Mother Tongue. You are expected to be committed at least twice a month. Experience in facilitating group sessions, and basic counselling skills will be an advantage.



Reformative Training Centre Programme (RTC)

 

Incare – Reformative Training Centre Programme (RTC) helps to reintegrate RTC boys with substance abuse background through 2 phases (Incare and Aftercare). Details for this programme will only be announced in 2009.

As a RTC Mentor, you will foster a positive and meaningful relationship with the RTC boys to prepare them for the aftercare phase of counselling. As a role model, you will also inculcate positive living values and good coping skills sets in these young minds. You will need good communication skills and knowledge of outdoor activities to help you in your mentoring.

Criteria
You need to be above 21 years old. Counselling background will be helpful. You are required to commit for evenings on weekdays and afternoons on weekends.


SMART Programme

 

SMART Programme (IA) with its focus on inhalant abuse, comprises activities and workshops held in a group setting for 14 to 18 years old probationers and their parents. Aptly named ‘SMART’, it represents the focus of the programme development: to attain Self-Management through Activities, Reflections/ Relationship and Therapy.

As a SMART Programme Facilitator, you will interact and engage the youth participants in the various activities and workshops, as well as being a role model and good example for these young minds. You will enjoy facilitating a variety of games and activities, organised both indoors and outdoors.

Criteria
You need to be between 18 and 50 years old. Ideally, you will follow through the 12 sessions of activities and workshops for each run of the programme. Experience in facilitating youth programmes, and basic counselling skills are necessary. It will be a bonus if you are first-aid trained.



Events
 
  You will enjoy plenty of interaction with the public, to garner support for a SANA’s anti-drug cause. This is a good opportunity to explore your interest in events, to put your good presentation skills to good use, and to engage people with your outgoing and pleasant personality. Volunteers will also get to be actively involved in SANA’s fundraising efforts, like the annual Donation Draw, Flag Day and other innovative ways of sustaining the fund requirements of SANA. You will also be involved in the preparation of the event (eg. Logistics and planning) and helping to run the show on the event day/s.


Fundraising

 

You are outgoing and have a pleasant and an engaging personality. You enjoy getting to know people and networking with a wide range of contacts. You are able to work independently, as well as in a team. Sales and marketing background will be very helpful.


Communications

 

Editorial
We welcome editorial support from volunteers for SANA News, our official newsletter. This quarterly publication is circulated to all volunteers, schools, government organisations and our corporate donors and partners. Volunteers will be exposed to a variety of tasks such as reporting for an event, writing or editing articles. You need to have good basic writing skills. Relevant qualifications will be very helpful.

Translation
SANA appreciates help with translating English text to a mother tongue (Mandarin, Malay or Tamil), for letters and brochures. Ideally, you should be proficient in two languages.

Design
SANA has a variety of communication collaterals, such as our newsletter, brochures, posters, e-cards, event programme booklet etc. Contribute your talent to help us spread the anti-drug abuse message, by making it come to life with your creative designs. You need to be able to use Indesign, Illustrator and/or Photoshop. It is a plus if you can use Flash.

Video and Photography
Volunteers who have a passion for video and photography are needed to help out in videotaping or providing photography coverage of important SANA events. Preferably, you have your own professional equipment. These photographs or videos will be published in SANA's quarterly newsletter and/or the annual report.

Information Technology
Website design and IT support is also vital to SANA. IT is an important tool of communication to reach out to the public as the increasing use of the internet becomes a daily part of our lives. Experience in troubleshooting, repair, assembly and integration of PC systems or knowledge of Windows XP/Vista / Server 2003 platform will be necessary, and network administration experience is optional. Alternatively, your experience with Flash and website design will be very helpful.


General Administration and Operations

 

We appreciate all the kind help that you are keen to offer. They may be reception duties, or, delivery/dispatch, or other non-major work. What matters is that you are helping the our community and SANA for a good cause and every help counts !
